We’ve all heard of critical race theory, but what about critical gender theory? Critical gender theory is political doctrine that reduces social interactions to a gender-based oppressor class vs. victim class dynamic.
In the same way that schools teach critical race theory by applying its principles to curriculum, gender theory applied principles may be present in your child’s classrooms, curricula, libraries, and more. Critical theorists are applying the same dogmatic ideologies to multiple facets of school life so that children are influenced by that way of thinking. To critical gender theorists, students are tools for behavioral and political change.
When taking a deeper look at gender theory itself it becomes remarkably obvious how inappropriate these concepts are for children. It is a colosal understatement to say that it’s inappropriate for children to be learning about “inclusion of power and privilege, conscious and unconscious bias, intersectionality, and covert and overt discrimination, and the principles of reproductive justice, racial justice, social justice, and equity.” Introducing adult and overtly sexual ideologies to children is predatory. Parents in Florida, Virginia, and Texas have voiced their concerns about this curriculum in their local schools. Many of these parents have come forward with materials that Florida Citizens Alliance exposed in a 40-novel porn report.
What do these ideas look like in practice? “Progressive” states like New York have public school inclusivity guidelines that very clearly explain the different gender identities that schools ought to support and promote. The state highlights that “sometimes transgender and gender expansive students begin their transition at school without a parent’s knowledge,” going so far as to require “schools to balance the goal of supporting the student with the requirement that parents be kept informed about their children.” Not only does this blatantly undermine parents, but the ideologies are nonscientific and perverted at best. Critical gender theory and its applications are subversive and have no place in K-12 classrooms.
Transgenderism and gender fluidity are often introduced under the guise of the sex education. Parents can choose to opt out of this sex ed curriculum in Florida, but your child’s school may still be teaching this curriculum through applied principles. Parents must stay vigilant with vetting what their children read and watch.
