Collier County Kids First Team Achieves Major Victory

by | Apr 16, 2024

On Monday, April 15th, the Collier County School Board agreed with two textbook reviewers to ask the publishing companies to change the adopted textbooks being purchased.

On February 13, 2024, the Collier County School Board approved new social studies textbooks.

Through our Kids First Team in Collier County, we were able to organize reviewers to see if any of the adopted textbooks had errors or biases. During this review process, three textbooks were found to be problematic.

During the special hearing held to discuss these formal objections, the school board members agreed to proceed to adopt these three textbooks with some revisions they would ask the publishers to make. They also agreed to mark the curriculum guides on the textbooks accordingly on these topics.

There were four objections that the school board agreed needed to be revised by the publishers.

Thank you to all the community members who participated in reviewing the social studies books in Collier County.
