Imagine a book filled with explicit images and information – depicting nudity and sexual acts and spreading unscientific claims related to sex – being marketed to your kids. This book exists, and it is called It’s Perfectly Normal by Robie Harris and illustrated by Michael Emberley. In reality, it’s completely inappropriate.

It’s Perfectly Normal is not the only example of inappropriate content being made available to children. Did you know that in 2017, Florida Citizens Alliance identified 44 novels in the media centers of Florida public schools which violate existing anti-pornography statutes in our state? These laws require a 3rd degree felony charge – yet this law-breaking is blatantly ignored in most Florida counties!

Sex education in schools should not provide more than human anatomy and biology. It is the responsibility of parents to discuss such sensitive topics with their children in the manner they deem appropriate. Most Florida school districts refuse to give parents access to their library materials. What are they hiding?

Florida Citizens Alliance’s comprehensive guide to porn in schools helps spread awareness, and you can help. If you are wondering what your children are being exposed to in school, take a look at FLCA’s Pornography in School’s Report. Share it with other parents and community members. Go to your schools and find out which books are in your schools. Let’s demand better for our children.
