VICTORY! Miami Teachers’ Union in Limbo

by | Jan 2, 2024

In Miami Dade County, we have achieved a major victory for teachers, families, and students.

It has been recently reported by Florida’s Voice News (see full article here) that United Teachers of Dade, the largest teachers union in Miami Dade County, did not meet the 60% requirement of eligible employee membership as required by SB 256.

This means that the union will need to:

  • Re-certify by petitioning the Public Employees Relation Commission.
  • Prove that they meet the 60% membership requirement.

During the 2023 Legislative Session, SB 256 was passed and signed into law. This reformed Public School Unions. The Florida Citizens Alliance strongly supported this bill during the legislative cycle by supporting the bill in committee and sent out an action alert related to it.
