NAPLES, FL – In a significant stride toward safeguarding minors in the digital age, HB 1 has successfully passed through both chambers of the Florida Legislature, marking a pivotal moment in prioritizing the well-being of Florida youth from the dangers of social media.

Florida Citizens Alliance, Citizens Defending Freedom, Moms for America, Christian Family Coalition, Florida Republican Assembly, The America Project, Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, and America’s Frontline Doctors call on Governor Ron DeSantis to continue his administration’s success in championing Florida children and parents by signing HB 1 into law.

HB 1, a comprehensive bill providing essential protections for minors on social media platforms and additional safeguards against exposure to explicit materials, has garnered widespread bipartisan support and is one step away from becoming law.

“We at Florida Citizens Alliance, and with the support of this coalition who champion the protection of children, we urge the governor to herald in a new era of legislative action aimed at fostering a safer and more secure online environment for Florida’s children,” says Keith Flaugh, co-founder and CEO of Florida Citizens Alliance.

Flaugh continued, “Social media protections are absolutely needed due to the increasing risks of organized conflicts and cyberbullying that not only jeopardize the safety of minors but also exacerbate mental health issues, including depression and suicidal tendencies, for those who are increasingly glued to handheld devices.”

Public sentiment strongly aligns with the urgency of enacting such legislation, with a recent poll indicating substantial support among Florida voters, parents, and guardians. Over two-thirds of Florida voters endorse HB 1.

The mental health and well-being of our children are in jeopardy, and HB 1 represents a crucial measure to protect Florida’s youth, parents, and communities from the adverse effects of addictive social media. As a united coalition, we strongly urge Governor Ron DeSantis to sign this legislation into law promptly.
